I just attended my last seminar at #ncmc11. It was a promotional/pr one named “50 Promotional Ideas in 50 minutes.” We went to this one last year, but it ended up being awful and basically a list of zany holidays you could promote on. This year was much better. There were actual events presented. WQAQ now has a lot of promotional ideas geared towards raising awareness of the station and also to raise money (for more events).

As I woke up this morning, later than the past couple days, I grew a little sadder knowing this was my last day of the conference. Although the Internet doesn’t work (Im posting this from my phone), the food is expensive and people line out the door for Starbucks, I’m going to miss this place. My day of conferences is lined up and I’m just waiting in the wings right now, ready to pounce on my day. This conference has given me a bunch of great ideas for WQAQ and I can’t wait to get back to the station.

Today’s morning session was about student run radio and how to manage it. What I got most from the seminar was to “notice the good.” Too often people garner attention for doing something wrong. It’s important to reward your members for the good they do because it shows that they are paying attention. People like attention and being rewarded. This basis is important to keep up chemistry among station members as well. There should also be more celebrations for all the station members too. WQAQ will soon be evaluating shows and it’s important to note all the good and right acts our DJs commit. I think our members will be much more pleased with next semester’s managers and managerial style.

facebook is the most used, but often times overlooked by users as a platform to tie in all your social media sites into one. Gerry, Scotty and myself just came back from a seminar on how to make your page stand above the rest. Expect big things from the WQAQ facebook page. If you don’t already like it, then click on ME!
Expect big things.
